B’fords RCMP Weekly Report: Multiple charges after report of man swinging an axe

Battlefords RCMP are reminding to the public that vehicles should not be left unoccupied while they warm up. Four reported thefts from this past week were incidents where a vehicle was left unoccupied while warming up and was stolen.

THE BATTLEFORDS — Battleford RCMP responded to 458 calls for service in the time period spanning Wednesday, Nov. 30 through Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Four missing persons reported

One missing person investigation remains active.

24 assault investigations

911 call of an assault shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 1.  Victim reported she was assaulted by a man known to her while they were walking on a road west of Battleford. The victim was eventually located, and had facial injuries for which she received medical treatment. The accused was located at a residence by members a short time later. A 31-year-old man is facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.

911 call of an assault at a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation shortly before 9 a.m. on Dec. 2. A man reported being assaulted by a suspect known to him. The victim sustained minor injuries. With assistance from security personnel from the Sweetgrass First Nation, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody and appeared in court on Dec. 5 charged with one count of assault.

At 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 3, a member driving on 10th Avenue in North Battleford observed an altercation between a man and woman and the man assaulting the woman. The man was arrested on scene and taken into custody. A 42-year-old man is facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.

Police called to a residence on the Sweetgrass First Nation just before 11 a.m. on Dec. 5. Complainant reported she was assaulted by her former partner during a custody exchange. Investigation revealed the complainant had broken into the home of her former partner who it was found had sustained injuries to his arm and hands. The complainant, a 37-year-old woman from the Cut Knife district, was arrested and is set to appear in court Jan. 19 charged with assault causing bodily harm, break and enter, mischief and breach of probation.

Several calls of a suspect breaking windows at a residence on Ross Crescent in North Battleford just before 6 a.m. Dec. 6. A 22-year-old woman was arrested on scene and is now scheduled to appear in court Feb. 13 charged with assault with a weapon and mischief.

A man is facing several charges after he accumulated a large bill at a licensed premise in North Battleford and refused to pay. Police were called to the scene at 6 p.m. on Nov. 30. When police arrived, he attempted to leave and when placed under arrest fought the members before being taking into custody. No injuries reported during incident. A 34-year-old man was remanded into custody and made his first appearance Dec. 2 charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering threats and obtaining food by fraud.

Five break and enter investigations

Break and enter reported on morning of Dec. 3 to a residence on Clark Drive in North Battleford. Damage to a back door during incident and a winter jacket reported stolen.

Reminder to the public that vehicles should not be left unoccupied while they warm up. At least four reported thefts from this past week were incidents where a vehicle was left unoccupied while warming up and was stolen. All have since been recovered, but with the arrival of cold weather, we are expecting an increase in vehicle thefts related to idling vehicles.

10 mischief investigations

Police called to the 1000 block of 107th Street in North Battleford at 220 p.m. on Dec. 2 on a report of a man swinging an axe. Members located the subject a short time later and took him in custody. An axe was recovered and seized. A 41-year-old man is facing charges of Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief, resisting arrest, breach of probation and failing to comply with a release order. He is also facing an additional charge of assaulting a police officer stemming from an incident the following day in North Battleford RCMP cells. The subject was remanded into custody and appeared on Dec. 5.
