One intriguing item up for bid in the CUPlex online auction is an opportunity to share lunch with former Battlefords resident and philantrophist Brett Wilson.

There's now a new way to help the Credit Union CUPlex fundraising committee meet its fundraising goal of $10 million.

Their "Reach for the Top Online Auction" is underway. It started Wednesday and runs until Wednesday, Nov. 9 with items listed at the Kramer Auction website at www.kramerauction.com.

Once there you can click on the "CUPlex" logo on the main page and it takes you to the main website where all the bidding is taking place. Bidders can register with an e-mail address and a password.

"The bidding has been very, very strong already on the first day," said fundraising co-chair Heath Gabruch Thursday. There are 130 items up for bids, donated by a wide variety of businesses.

One of the most intriguing items up for bid is a lunch for four people with Brett Wilson, the well-known businessman and TV personality. The lunch would be held in his corporate boardroom and prepared by his executive chef.

As of early Thursday morning 22 bids have been received with the highest being for $1,575.

Another popular item is 20 tickets to the corporate suite at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon to watch the Saskatoon Blades take on the Edmonton Oil Kings. Ten bids were in as of Thursday morning with a high bid already of $250.

Bidding on those and other items does not close until Wednesday, around 9 p.m.

Other items include such things as acreage equipment, china and mattress sets, gift certificates and many other interesting items. With Christmas around the corner, many items will be good Christmas gifts.

"Certainly you can see what people have been focusing on," said Gabruch of the bidding. "People are watching with interest, that's for sure."

It's tough to say how much will be raised, says Gabruch, but it will add to the total needed for the fundraising committee to reach their $10 million goal. They are now into their final million towards reaching the goal, he said.

"Whatever we raise will be fantastic, it's just another way for people to contribute to the CUPlex," said Gabruch.
