The Nipawin Hawks kept getting better as the game wore on and finally got rewarded as they knocked off the Melville Millionaires 4-1 in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Nipawin on Dec. 8.

After getting outshot 14-10 in the first period, the black and gold turned the game around in the final two periods, outshooting the Millionaires 35-10, including 20-4 in the third period, which saw the Hawks outscore the Millionaires 3-0.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams as neither found the back of the net until Isaac Embree beat Hawks goaltender Jake Anthony for his ninth goal of the year at 1:06 of the second period.

The Millionaires clung to their one goal lead for less than six minutes before the Hawks responded, off the stick of Jake Tremblay, who scored his seventh of the year to tie the score at one.

The game remained tied into the third period, when the Hawks exploded for three goals, as Josh McDougall scored once, and Grant Baetsen scored twice to give the Hawks the win.

Special teams were just that for both teams, as the Millionaires finished 1-for-4 with the man advantage, while the Hawks finished the evening 3-for-5.

Anthony picked up his ninth win of the season, and second in a row, turning aside 23 of the 24 shots he faced, as the Hawks outshot the Millionaires 45-24.
