BJORKDALE — The Bjorkdale Fire Department is receiving $10,000, which will go toward new gear and help upgrade the department’s 1971 fire truck.

The money is coming from Concentra Bank, which provides financial services to credit unions. The Cornerstone Credit Union applied to Concentra’s Empowering Your Community campaign on behalf of the fire department.

There were 75 applications submitted from credit unions across Canada. Fifteen were selected to receive a $10,000 award.

The Bjorkdale Fire Department is strictly run by volunteers, including the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. Their primary focus is the safety of their firefighters and the communities they serve.

“This $10,000 donation is vital to the safety of the firefighters and the public,” said Doug Jones, Cornerstone’s CEO. "We are grateful for all the work they do.”
