Entrepreneurial drive is prompting some small business owners to invest in Blaine Lake. Construction of a new retail business along Main Street is raising awareness of the business potential in Blaine Lake's business core.

Fred Campiou, of Cree River Developments and who is currently operating the 12-40 gas bar and restaurant, acted on a vision.

The 26-foot by 60-foot building constructed of insulated concrete forms has a log siding exterior that architecturally complements the current Main Street store-front design and the name Trading Post.

The business, Cree River Development Trading Post, officially opened its doors for business Dec. 10 and is managed by Ruth Morton along with general manager Ernie Crowder.

The business showcases aboriginal art from beadwork and jewelry to traditional head dress and dance costume.

Display cabinets are adorned with numerous gift items such as dream catchers and beaded key chains, cellphone holders and lighter cases while shelves are lined with a selection of toys, small hardware items, dry goods and confectionery.

A variety of blankets are available ranging from wool and acrylic to the handmade fabric star blankets. The colors are vibrant and are guaranteed to complement any décor. Popular items include the selection of brand name T-shirts and hoodies.

Tables will be added in the foyer area to accommodate guests wishing to enjoy a cup of fresh brewed coffee and snack/dessert items.

Trading Post hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Stop by and check out the many unique items on offer.
