SaskPower has again announced its Block Heater Timer Giveaway, which will take place Nov. 17-18 and Nov. 24-25.
In its second year, SaskPower explains that the giveaway is "to thank customers for the continued efforts to conserve energy." The block heater timers are important to save energy, and fewer than half of Saskatchewan households use them. In their press release, SaskPower calculates that if every Saskatchewan resident used a block heater timer, enough power could be saved to power over 5,000 homes.
Most households plug their cars in for the winter, but most people also don't realize that a car only needs to be plugged in for four hours to start. Timers for block heaters keep people from wasting energy by making sure that, rather than drawing power for a full night, they do so for only four to six hours.
SaskPower customers take note: using a block heater timer could save up to $25 in electricity costs each year. Anyone interested in picking up their free block heater timer can do so at local Co-op, Sears, Peavey Mart or Home Hardware locations. In North Battleford, the timers will be available at Co-op and Peavey Mart.
