Boston Pizza locations were doing their part to raise money to send kids with disabilities to summer camp.
The company partnered with Saskatchewan Abilities Council to raise over $60,000 as part of their second-annual Boston Pizza Day for Camp Easter Seal.
According to the company news release, the province-wide effort happened June 25 at all Saskatchewan and Lloydminster franchise locations, including the North Battleford location at Frontier Mall.
Locations donated ten per cent of all sales that day towards Boston Pizza Day for Camp Easter Seal. Additional funds were raised through purchases of two-dollar Camp Cards where individuals and businesses wrote messages of support.
An online auction was also conducted to help the cause to the tune of $6,500.
The effort was helped by special guests and politicians from all levels of government who came out to assist and serve customers at locations throughout the day.
All funds were donated to Camp Easter Seal through the Boston Pizza Foundation, which raises money for a variety of local, regional and national charities across Canada. The goal is to be able to send kids with disabilities to Camp Easter Seal free of charge.
Camp Easter Seal is located at Lake Manitou near Watrous. It is a fully wheelchair accessible summer camp where, each summer, over 700 campers attend and participate in summer adventures such as horseback riding, water skiing, themed dances, arts and crafts, and camp outs. The staff are trained in meeting the complex and diverse needs of those campers who attend, and full-time medical staff is available there as well.
Camp Easter Seal is fully subsidized for the campers who attend. The cost comes to $1,500 per child to attend camp for one week, so it was seen as important to garner support for Camp Easter Seal so children with disabilities could continue to attend free of charge.
