Wilkie resident, Dan Sittler, son of Terry and Blair Sittler is living a dream.
His band, based out of Edmonton, Se7en Sided, has hit the cover of Music Now magazine. Sittler used to play with the band based out of Wilkie, Offset. Sittler has been playing guitar for seven years, starting guitar lessons at age 17. Before that he was self-taught as he was only 15 while playing with the band at gigs around the province.
Sittler left home to attend Grant McEwan University in Edmonton, enrolled in the music program. He graduated from the program with honours. He then took employment in a music store that offered guitar lessons. Sittler is also still working toward his goal of becoming an electrician.
Se7en Sided includes musicians Darren Nakonechney, Aaron Hanley, Marcus Engel and Sittler. Sittler earned an audition through a past band member who didn't make the cut. Sittler is on the road to realizing one of his dreams as a musician.
The band released their album, Life on Hold, in September and it's been uphill ever since. Se7en Sided is considered to be in the mainstream pop/rock genre. Their routine is rehearsals, sometimes four times a week, plus shows, tours as well as writing and recording. You can check them out on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/se7ensided or twitter account at www.twitter.com/se7ensided.
Friends and relatives of Sittler are extremely proud, and not surprised, by his accomplishments. The common theme amongst those who know Sittler is "you could tell this kid loved music and that his destiny was likely going to be in the music industry". Wilkie can now proudly say one of their own is on the road to rock stardom.
