The sounds emanating from the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club after school could soon be a little more musical.

The Boys and Girls Club was announced as a recipient of the 2019 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program. The local club was one of 37 community music programs nationwide.

The North Battleford Boys and Girls Club received instruments and supplies to run a music program that offers guitar and piano lessons. The club also received music books and music stands.

According to Executive Director Nicole Combres, the music program has been a dream come true.

“Thanks to MusiCounts TD Community Music Program, we have been able to receive the instruments and accessories needed to offer a music program to the children and youth of the Battlefords. There are a number of barriers our families face and being able to reduce some of them is vital for the growth and development of our young people.”

Combres says, “Our young people, some of the most vulnerable in our community, are our future so it is essential we provide them the opportunities they deserve.”

The total amount of money as part of the music program is $500,000 and is to benefit 7,000 youth participants.

“We believe music has the power to unite youth and transform communities,” MusiCounts Executive Director Kristy Fletcher said in a press release.
