Bridgefest stabbing accused found guilty

A 15-year old youth has been found guilty of both aggravated assault and weapons possession in connection to the BridgeFest stabbing incident from Aug. 27, 2011.

The trial for the accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, wrapped up in provincial court March 21.

He was arrested following a stabbing incident just outside the front entrance at Bridgefest in the Battlefords Flats that night. According to police reports, several people were engaged in a heated exchange and a 19-year-old was stabbed. He was taken to hospital following the incident and had to undergo surgery.

Sentencing for the individual will take place next month.
