Battlefords Residential Services Inc. is expanding services by 28 per cent in 2012.

The organization is building two new homes in the Battlefords that will provide housing options for 12 additional clients.

According to BRSI press release this expansion has been made possible by the support of the community and municipal and provincial governments.

The construction of these two new homes has been made possible through a partnership between BRSI and the Ministry of Social Services. The total cost of the construction projects will be $1.8 million comprised of a capital grant of $750,000 from the ministry, a mortgage through Innovation Credit Union, BRSI reserve funds and donations from community minded individuals like Glenn Hornick and family.

"I am very excited about the new home being constructed on 102nd Street. This home has been specially designed to accommodate people with complex needs like our daughter, Sylene." said Collene Piatt.

BRSI has come a long way, according to a press release but still has a little further to go to complete phase one of the expansion plans.

Funding does not address the need for items such as furnishings, window coverings, appliances and adaptive equipment for use in the two homes and the two assisted living suites.

"We need your help to make these houses into homes before the Sept. 1 move in date. BRSI is officially announcing the kick-off for our fund raising campaign," the release states.

The goal is to raise $ 100,000, "so we can convert these houses into happy homes for our family members"

Over the next few months BRSI will be approaching community organizations, local businesses and members of the community.

"We are confident that the great people of the Battlefords and area will help us continue to provide excellent homes for people with disabilities in our community. "

BRSI's mission is "To promote a happy and rewarding life for every member of our family, in a quality home created by superior staff using compassion and innovation," according to the press release.

BRSI has been providing service to the residents of the Battlefords for more than 25 years. BRSI currently provides care and support for 42 of family members in five homes and Supported Living Program throughout the community.

The board of directors says it is proud of the service and commitment each of the 70 staff to creating healthy, happy homes.
