Battlefords RCMP are encouraging residents to protect their vehicles in the wake of a theft of a truck that was later found on fire.
Around 5:50 a.m. on Oct. 8, Battlefords RCMP were dispatched to a theft of a truck from the 2000 block of Douglas Avenue. According to police, RCMP observed a vehicle that appeared to be involved in a single vehicle accident and the vehicle was on fire. There were three persons observed running from the scene but they entered a wooded area and were not located.
Police are offering tips to residents to protect their vehicleswith some basic crime-prevention measures, such as:
- make sure there are no valuables left in plain sight when leaving your vehicle, such as keys, personal identification, clothing, ipods, tablets, etc.
- never leave keys in an unattended vehicle, roll up the windowsand always lockdoors.
- park your vehicle in the garage if you have one.
- do not hide or leave spare keys in your vehicle.
