Busy summer for museum volunteers

It has been a busy summer at the Maidstone Museum, starting off with a wedding group using the buildings as a backdrop for their photos. The wedding party members were dressed in black and white.

The Maidstone High School grads chose the village for their grad photos. The museum thanks them for their generous donation.

July 1 was another busy day with the museum volunteers taking part in the parade and organizing the decorated bike contest, the children's races, straw scramble, stage entertainment, food booth and tours of the village.

The next event was hosting an antique car tour group and providing a soup and sandwich luncheon for all who attended. Most of the 39 cars were from Lloydminster and North Battleford and a few from an across Canada tour group.

Many of the museum buildings have received a new coat of paint applied by the volunteer members. Bill McGilvery, construction boss, and helper Terry Scott redid the roof on the outdoor addition to the kitchen, which was damaged by the heavy snowfall last winter. It was done in time for a wedding reception held for Errin and Shanon McGilvery July 9.

An appreciation potluck supper was held in July for all who have helped during the summer.

Construction of a wheelchair ramp to the Corker House will be completed soon. Museum members hope to have this new addition to the village ready for use when the museum opens next spring.

Social Sundays have been enjoyed by bingo players on several Sundays during the summer. Thanks to all those who helped with the calling.

A number of visitors have toured our museum village over the summer from all over Canada, with a volunteer to answer questions and give information.

The next project is the annual corn roast on Labour Day Monday, Sept. 2. An antique car show and trade show will provide enjoyment for all ages.

The regular summer hours are finished that weekend, but tours by request are available until snowfall. Contact people are Mae Hinde 306-893-4030, Dorothy Schwartz 306-893-2663 or Judith 306-893-265.

The museum needs additional volunteers. If you would like to give some of your time it would be most appreciated. Contact Mae or Dorothy at the above numbers.
