HUMBOLDT — Carlton Trail College has received a gold MarCom Award for creative excellence in marketing and communications work for the college’s print fall 2020/winter 2021 viewbook, which advertises the school’s program information.
These programs include post-secondary, adult basic education, English as a subsequent language, industry and safety training, as well as online training information.
The MarCom Awards is an international competition for marketing and communications.
The viewbook was co-ordinated by Jennifer Brooks, Carlton Trail College’s development and communications manager, and Val Koroluk, the college’s marketing facilitator.
“What was previously a very text-heavy program guide, with lots of detailed information was looked at and shifted to present similar information but in a visually engaging way,” Brooks said.
“Upon doing so, we looked at other examples other institutions have put forth for their kinds of similar guides and thought how we could integrate that for the programs that we offer.”
This year’s winning edition contains each of their course information in a text rectangle, over a background stock photo, or in some cases local photos of students.
“Some photos are stock and some are ours. We really wanted to ensure our images are also representative of our region, so we’re looking to increase diversity and representation of our learning community, so that was important for us to consider too.”
Pleased with the finished product, Brooks said they decided to put the viewbook into the competition to see where they might stand.
“We were very pleased to find out our work holds just as strong with a number of different agencies, organizations and professionals who work at high levels across the globe,” Brooks said. “That just further solidifies for us that we can put forth very strong work and represent the college well.”
