CARROT RIVER — Carrot River and the RM of Moose Range are close to hiring a new fire chief.

The two municipalities received 13 applicants for the position, which was advertised as equivalent to 0.6 of a full-time job.

“We’re very pleased with the number and quality of the applicants that we did receive,” said Bob Gagné, Carrot River’s mayor. “Very knowledgeable people, very well-trained, qualified.”

That was narrowed down to four candidates, who have been interviewed for the job.

“There were several people with really good qualifications that didn’t make the shortlist,” said Kevin Trew, the town’s administrator. “We were very impressed with the quality of applicants.”

“We took the best of the best,” Gagné added.

“We have made an offer to one candidate and we are waiting acceptance or refusal of that,” Trew said.

The town administrator said he expects a public announcement to be made in the coming weeks.
