CARROT RIVER— The Town of Carrot River has begun a new program to deliver groceries and supplies to people in the community who are in self-isolation.

“As a municipality it’s important to look for a way to help,” said Kevin Trew, Carrot River’s administrator. “We’ve kind of been watching closely for the last week, figuring out ways we could offer extra help, and we have the ability to be that centralized place.”

Trew said the measure was inspired by people in the community reaching out on social media, offering to help others.

“We have had a couple people reach out to us already that would provide help. We’re just hoping to go from there.”

Measures are being drafted to prevent volunteers from coming into direct contact with the residents they are delivering to.

The program is “no questions asked” about the reason for the resident being in self-isolation.

The Town of Carrot River is also asking that if residents know of someone who needs help getting groceries or supplies because they are unable to leave their home because of health or self-isolation, or they have been travelling and you encounter them not practicing social distancing, to please let them know to call the town office at 306-768-2515 to sign up for the program.

To be added to the list to volunteer, residents can call 306-768-3833 and leave a message.
