CARROT RIVER— The Carrot River Outback Winter Finale has been cancelled, due to the risk of public exposure to Covid-19.
Ila Boehm, Carrot River’s acting mayor, said that it was a difficult discussion, and was impacted by the provincial government’s choice to close K-12 schools and day care centres.
“The decision is not one which we took lightly, we have been in contact with Saskatchewan Health and had made plans to continue as so many events of this size have over this past weekend,” Boehm said. “However, very recent developments in regards to protocols around self-isolation, social distancing and mass gatherings and the manner in which these protocols are expected to help flatten the curve made this decision much easier.”
The finale was planned for March 19 to 22, 2020.
A press release from the town noted that the staff have been in contact with the organizers of the event as well as vendors and participants.
The town stated that they received positive feedback, full cooperation and confirmation.
In addition to the cancellation of the event, the town also announced the temporary public closure of both the Carrot River Community Center (rink) and Carrot River Community Hall.
