Getting the necessary approvals for a new subdivision in Carrot River has been slower than expected.
“You have to get different agencies and organizations to sign off on your development and the Ministry of Environment was concerned about the area that we identified as a subdivision, that the elevation was going to be too low,” said Kevin Trew, the town's administrator.
The administrator said that while the plan has always been to raise the area with fill, the environment ministry required an report from the engineer, which slowed down the process.
Now the town is waiting for approval from Community Planning.
“I think we’re very close to having that approval,” Trew said. “Once that is [done], then our engineer can go and we can go to [releasing] tendering documents.”
Trew said he’s optimistic that work will start in the fall.
Pavilion roof
Plans are going ahead to put a roof on the stage at the town square.
“Since we got that grant from the Federated Co-ops, the Community Space Grants, we’re proceeding with the cover over the stage,” Trew said.
There is a slight delay, as plans have to be redrawn to ensure the roof is structurally sound. The original plans built the structural supports of the roof right on the concrete pad, which is not designed to support such a weight.
