The CBI Health Walk-in Medical Centre at the Territorial Mall has announced it will be closing Dec. 22.
The news was made public Wednesday by Ryon Haggard, who is the clinic manager.
CBI Health had opened about two years ago after identifying a need for a walk-in clinic in the area. They noted a large number of people could not access a family physician and were enduring long wait times at the emergency room in North Battleford for what were non-emergent health care needs.
"We began the walk-in medical clinic to temporarily address this gap," read their news release Wednesday.
"The ability to access non-emergent care has significantly improved with the addition of physicians to our community who are accepting new patients, with the commitment of the Ministry of Health to reduce emergency wait times, with the Battlefords Union Hospital staffing an additional emergency room practitioner during peak hours, and other walk-in medical clinic services are currently being arranged to commence in January 2013 within the Battlefords.
"We are confident that the identified needs of our community can be met on a permanent basis with these initiatives in place, and that our walk-in medical services are no longer required."
CBI Health thanked all the patients at their facility "for the opportunity to address their medical concerns." They also thanked all the physicians who dedicated additional hours to the operation of the walk-in medical clinic.
"The CBI Walk-in Medical Centre was able to assist people with improved access to non emergent care and paediatric services, and to increase the vaccination rate in the Battlefords and surrounding area through the evening flu shot clinic. None of this could have been achieved without the dedicated physicians in our community."
While the walk-in clinic is closing, CBI plans to continue with its physiotherapy, exercise therapy, physical rehabilitation programs and workplace solutions at CBI Physical Rehabilitation Centre at the same location at Territorial Place Mall in North Battleford.
