The City of North Battleford 2013 centennial celebration committee has announced details of the final closing ceremonies of the 2013 centennial year.

They are set for between 1 and 2 p.m. at Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts on Dec. 31. The plan is to close the 2013 centennial time capsule at that ceremony.

During the event, the centennial committee says the time capsule will be filled with items placed in it by committee members and local residents. The items, mentioned by the committee in a news release, could include photos, school art, postcards to the future, newspapers, currency, the children's charter, posters, poems, a letter from the mayor, and other memorabilia. A sampling of the items will be on display at this event.

As well, all of those in attendance will be invited to enter their name into a free draw, and the name drawn will win the North Battleford miniature water tower that has been used throughout the centennial year.

Residents are encouraged to pick up a time capsule envelope at City Hall.

"We are very excited to preserve some of our community's artifacts for future generations," said Tammy Donahue Buziak, centennial committee chair, in a statement.

"It is our goal, with this centennial time capsule, to showcase our community during 2013. When future residents open up this time capsule in 100 years, they will get a true look at what our lives were really like. This capsule will allow us all to be recorded in time and will ensure a legacy for years to come."
