Centennial committee distributes surplus to community

The Hafford - RM of Redberry Centennial Committee dedicated two years to make the event a success.

The Hafford - RM of Redberry Centennial Committee held a wind-up meeting May 12 at the Ukrainian National Hall in Hafford.

In attendance were committee members Ollie Marciniuk, Ron Tkachuk, Evelyn Grzybowski, Ron Tanchak, Ron Kowalchuk, Peter Kyliuk, Denise Kowalchuk and Irene Attrux, as well as 50 residents from the town and rural municipality.

President Ollie Marciniuk gave a brief outline of the work of the centennial committee beginning in August 2011 up to the final event in June 2013. The centennial event ended with a surplus of $28,600, which was allocated to community organizations.

Hafford Recreation Board received $10,000, which was presented to Marlene Pool on behalf of the recreation board.

Town of Hafford and RM of Redberry Fire Department received $5,000 presented to volunteer fire chief, John Kuzyk.

Hafford Y-O Men's Club received $3,000 presented to Steve Grzybowski and Doug Beleznay.

The Hafford Teen Force received $2,000, which was presented to two members of the youth club,Marina RiceandTyra Smith.

The money was given to the organizations with the stipulation the money be used in the community to improve, upgrade, beautify and enhance projects in the community. The balance of $8,600.00 was retained by the committee for the completion of the legacy project.

Following the meeting those in attendance were invited to coffee and doughnuts and to view the two CDs that were made for the event. One is a walk down memory lane in pictures, the second contained pictures taken during the four-day event. The CDs are available for sale at the RM office in Hafford.
