The City of North Battleford says planning has officially begun for the city's 2013 centennial.
A committee has been struck with over 40 volunteers, with their first meeting held March 7.
The core committee, consisting of chair Don Buglas, co-chair Tammy Donahue-Buziak, finance chair Siobhan Gormley and media and communications chair Mike Halstead, put out their call for volunteers in January.
The year of activities in 2013 is designed to celebrate the 100th year since North Battleford achieved city status in 1913.
Planning is still in the early stages. According to a news release from March 9, the City intends to have "one centennial event every month throughout 2013 and possibly a larger one toward the middle of the year," according to Halstead.
Six sub-committees have also been struck, each with a chairperson, and those will meet over the coming weeks.
Halstead said that the volunteers include retirees, professionals, politicians, students and some from outside the community, all "willing to dedicate their time to ensure the 100th Anniversary of North Battleford is one that won't be forgotten."
