It was an opportunity that happens mostly in the big cities.
But the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce and Stryde Contracting gave potential leaders in Humboldt the chance to expand their leadership potential at the Live2Lead event on March 28.
Ron Morris with Lift Leadership Coaching offers the Jon Maxwell Live2Lead program through his business with Morris introducing the program and the speakers.
Live2Lead is filmed yearly in Duluth, GA with four speakers, including author and founder of Live2Lead, John Maxwell, working with people on their leadership skills and growing themselves as leaders.
Maxwell says a good leader serves others, sees more than others, and sees more before others.
For Morris, there are many words that describe a good leader but a good leader especially takes responsibility and are willing to help and empower others.
“It’s about putting us before me...the biggest thing is caring for your people and doing what’s right,” says Morris.
Quoting Maxwell, Morris says growing intentionally does not just happen.
“If you want to grow, you’re going to have to apply yourself. It’s not going to be an accident. It’s not going to come in a thunder bolt. You have to apply yourself and do some work.”
Other speakers included finance expert, author, and radio host, Dave Ramsey, CEO of Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, Cheryl Bachelder, and sports journalist and author Don Yeager introducing former NFL player, Warrick Dunn.
All these speakers have gone through something where, to succeed, they have had to change their limiting beliefs.
“You have to find out where you are, accept where you are, accept that you want to change, and accept you’re willing to take the steps to change.”
Encouraging a culture of growth and giving local leaders some perspective was the goal for Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stacey Poss while she worked with Stefani and Dryden Block of Stryde
Contracting on bringing Live2Lead into Humboldt.
The idea of servant leadership is one that Poss is familiar with and she feels that that is the role of the chamber in the community.
If more people had the ideal of serving others before themselves, that would change the face of business, says Poss.
“If everyone had that mentality then everyone has potential with engagement right from the CEO to the front line workers. That changes the whole culture of our business community and the community as a whole.”
Morris is appreciative of Poss and Stefani and Dryden who sponsored the event.
They did not have the usual amount of time to put the event together and they did a fantastic job of getting the community excited for the event, says Morris.
