The inaugural Best Business Showcase event that the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce hoped to put on in October is not proceeding this fall as planned.

That news came out of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce directors meeting Tuesday night.

The Chamber had announced plans in March to hold a major trade show at the soon-to-be-completed BTC Field House as a way to launch the Credit Union CUPlex this fall. The Chamber event was scheduled for Oct. 17-18 and was touted to be a showcase for small and large businesses in the Battlefords.

However, since that announcement the completion date for the field house has been pushed back, and the Chamber now says the facility won't be available to them.

The Chamber is now in the midst of rethinking its plans. The organizing committee is expected to get together soon to work on timelines.

The likely scenario is that the Business Showcase show will not go ahead until next year. Battlefords Chamber president Pat Smith indicated to the board that 2013 seemed most likely.

"It'll give us a little more time to plan it," said Smith to Chamber directors Tuesday, "and make it a big thing for Sharon's (Mohagen) presidency next year."
