HUMBOLDT — A new effort aims to let people know what businesses are doing to serve their customers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce has started a Facebook group, This Business Can…, which aims to highlight those local businesses that are going out of their way to help those affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
“It came about because we've got a lot of businesses out there that are doing just some extraordinary things,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber’s executive director. “When it comes to it, it's selfless work that they're doing.”
For instance, some businesses are doing free local delivery, while others are setting aside shopping hours for seniors only.
“There's a lot of businesses out there that are just doing a lot to ensure that people understand that their business is still open for business,” Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick said now’s the time for business to pull together so they can survive.
“This is not the time now for individual gain. This is about community survival. That's what's important right now.”
The executive director added it’s important that residents support local businesses as much as possible during the pandemic.
