MEADOW LAKE – Charges have been stayed against a man in separate alleged gang-related incidents where two women had fingers cut off.

On Aug. 17, the Crown provided the court with a written stay of proceedings against 29-year-old Brian Keith Maurice from Flying Dust First Nation, according to the courthouse.

Maurice and four others were charged following three separate incidents that occurred on Feb. 11.

Meadow Lake RCMP say they got a call that a man was banging on the door of a home in Meadow Lake and yelling that someone was going to shoot him. A vehicle pulled up to the residence, a man got out and forced him into the vehicle.

Ten minutes later, police got a call that a woman had three fingers cut off and was seeking help at a home in Meadow Lake.  Five minutes later, police got a report that a second woman had two fingers cut off, had serious injuries, and was seeking help at a home on Flying Dust First Nation. Both women were taken to hospital.

RCMP located the vehicle on Flying Dust First Nation, which they say was involved in the incident where a man was forced into the vehicle in Meadow Lake.

This story has been updated regarding the status of the charges against the suspect.
