MEADOW LAKE — Meadow Lake RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in locating two individuals involved in three violent incidents over the weekend. Brian Maurice, 38, from Flying Dust First Nation and Chantal Roy, 24, from Meadow Lake are among five people charged.
On Feb. 11 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report that an unknown adult male was banging on the door of a residence on 6th Avenue East in Meadow Lake, yelling that someone was going to shoot him. It was further reported that a vehicle had pulled up to the residence, a male exited and forced the unknown male into the vehicle with him. The vehicle then left the scene travelling in an unknown direction.
Shortly after this incident, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of an injured adult female seeking assistance at a residence on 2nd Street East in Meadow Lake. It was reported the female had what were described as serious injuries which included having three fingers cut off one hand.
Five minutes later, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a report of a second injured adult female seeking assistance at a residence on the Flying Dust First Nation. It was reported the second female also had what were reported to be serious injuries which included having two fingers cut off one hand.
RCMP officers and local EMS attended to the residences on 2nd Street East and the Flying Dust First Nation. EMS transported the two females to hospital for treatment.
While conducting the investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle in the incident where the adult male was forced into a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle on the Flying Dust First Nation and subsequently arrested two individuals.
Investigators believe the three incidents involve local gangs and are related.
“This was a rapidly developing incident,” said S/Sgt. Ryan How, Meadow Lake RCMP Detachment Commander. “We had multiple crime scenes, two seriously injured victims, and five suspects. The assistance of the Flying Dust First Nation Security Team was critical to identifying the suspect vehicle and the initial arrests. Additionally, the Protection and Response Team provided valuable assistance in securing the crime scenes. It means a lot to know you can rely on strong partnerships during serious incidents like this and I am grateful for their assistance.”
As a result of the investigation,
Jerrico Lasas, 30, from Waterhen Lake First Nation;
Ronald Campbell, 27, from Buffalo Narrows;
Kayla Lasas, 26, from Waterhen Lake First Nation;
Brian Maurice, 38, from Flying Dust First Nation;
Chantal Roy, 24, from Meadow Lake have all been jointly charged with:
- Kidnapping while using a prohibited firearm
- Aggravated assault
- Uttering threats
- Using a firearm in commission of offence
- Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
Jerrico Lasas is also charged with:
- Failure to comply with probation order
Ronald Campbell is also charged with:
- Possession of firearm contrary to court order
Chantal Roy is also charged with:
- Fail to comply with release order
Jerrico Lasas, Ronald Campbell and Kayla Lasas made their first court appearance in Meadow Lake on Feb.14
Arrest warrants have been issued for Brian Maurice and Chantal Roy.
Brian Maurice is described as a 28-year-old male. He is 5’ 8” tall and weighs 141 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. A picture of Brian Maurice is not available. He may be on the Flying Dust First Nation.
Chantal Roy is described as a 24-year-old female. She is 5’ 4” tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She has a butterfly tattoo on her right wrist and a mother holding child tattoo on her left arm. She may be in Meadow Lake. A photo of Chantal Roy has been released.
