CARROT RIVER — Roman Charko has been elected the new mayor of Carrot River.
In a May 12 byelection, Charko received 171 votes. His opponent, Dylan Borody, received 127. No ballots were spoiled.
Charko will serve the community until November 2024. He replaces Dennis Letendre, who resigned due to health concerns in March.
In a previous interview with the East Central Recorder, Charko said if elected, he would have a focus on promoting business into the community, pointing to the involvement of current industries throughout the surrounding area.
“Those people all contribute to the community and make the community viable. If we can bring more businesses to the community, it would make the community strong.”
