KINDERSLEY — The Town of Kindersley continues to seek volunteers for the community’s upcoming Professional Bull Riders event, scheduled for Sept. 5-6 at the West Central Events Centre.

Town recreation coordinator Shaelyn Atkinson told SaskToday in a recent phone interview that she was hoping to secure as many as 20 more volunteers to assist with the admission gate, usher duties, bar ticket sales, barbecue supper and more.

"Of course everyone wants to volunteer to be a bartender,” she said laughing. “But we have a lot of spaces to fill this coming September just because it’s a two-night event this year instead of the one like it was last year.”

The request for volunteers followed earlier commitments from both the local Lions Club and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Kindersley Klippers, which Atkinson said filled many but not all available time slots.

The calendar on the town’s website also has the WCEC blocked off for five days ahead of this year’s PBR event for setup, as well as two days afterward for teardown and cleanup.

Atkinson said last year’s one-night event attracted between 1,400-1,500 fans to the local arena, though added that she was not permitted to share specific numbers on sales to date for this year’s show due to a confidentiality agreement with the PBR organization.

Mayor Ken Francis said when contacted that he did not believe the town had a financial stake in the event, either in terms of investment or profit sharing, and the town office did not provide any further details along those lines in response to a request for information from SaskToday.

The town’s 2025-26 budget included a capital expense of $144,070 for the West Central Events Centre, and the town announced July 29 that re-coating of the facility’s walking and running track had been completed.
