Dale Roger sent the News-Optimist these photos of the shelf cloud weather system that rolled in from the west on Saturday, July 27. He watched it come from the west about 8 p.m. across the open fields, and then it came right over their yard, which is about 15 miles northeast of Mayfair. “It was in the shape of a horizontal rainbow and we were right in the middle of it.” Thankfully, he said, there wasn’t much hail and it didn’t do very much damage. They got about three quarters of an inch of rain out of it.
