TISDALE — Tisdale RCMP received a report of an alleged incident involving a man who was trying to lure children into his truck with candy.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 30 within the 1200 block of 100th Street. The vehicle was described as a white 4x4 truck with rust along the bottom. The man is described as wearing glasses, having short brown hair, possibly in his thirties and of a darker complexion. There were some passengers in the vehicle as well, and the truck model was believed to be a Dodge.

The six-year-old and nine-year-old girls appoached declined the offer without incident and are safe.

The Tisdale RCMP advises talking with your children about ‘stranger danger’.

“Always just make sure parents are educating their kids on the stranger danger and how to deal with and respond to strangers,” said Sgt. Daryl Andrusiak, the Tisdale RCMP’s commanding officer. “Also just encouraging anybody who sees any suspicious activity to call a detachment to report that.”

Using a ‘safe word’ with your children may also be a wise technique.

“I even had it with my kids where if you’re being picked up from an event or anything like that, we had a safe word,” Andrusiak said. “So if it was anybody but me and my wife showed to pick them up, ask them, ‘what’s the safe word?’ and if they didn’t know it, they knew to walk away and find help.”

Police made extensive patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle, nor identify the individuals involved. The investigation is ongoing.
