Winter Lights? Double check.

The Winter Lights are back and bigger than ever in Nipawin. The first night, Dec. 2, kicked off with 365 cars driving through the regional park.

With 44 sites compared to last year’s 39, there is plenty to see during the drive through the park.

Charla Salmond, a member of the Nipawin Events Inc. committee, spoke with the Review Dec. 5. Though the Winter Lights is a December event, planning starts in mid-November.

“It takes a couple of weeks of contacting businesses and the businesses setting up their sites,” Salmond. “Each business has their own sign at each of the sites and they decorate them however they like.”

Admission to Winter Lights is an optional donation at the end of the drive. Donations are distributed among the non-profit groups and volunteer organizations that help out during the evenings.

With the event in its fourth year, it has become a Nipawin tradition for many families.

“It just gets everybody in the Christmas spirit early and it’s such a nice thing to take your family and drive through and see the lights,” said Salmond.
