A variety of decisions came to council during the June 11 meeting.

A request has come in for a new private liquor store to be built at the Quill Centre.

Council has approved the request. Planning Coordinator Anthony Andre says he is unable to reveal who has filed the request at this time.

Mayor Rob Muench says the market will tell whether the new business will succeed in the city.

Council passed a motion to deny a request from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

FCM sent a request to the city looking for funding for additional campaigning for the upcoming 2019 Federal election. FCM said in a communication with the city that they are looking towards a new strategy for reaching out to parties regarding municipal issues.

The city will not be contributing to this new campaign.

The city has also denied a funding request from the Provincial Assocation of Resort Communities of Saskatchewan. They are looking for additional funds to contribute to the Waterfort District Planning Commission and their efforts to protect Lake Deifenbaker from zebra mussels.

Members of council said that with the budget already passed and no sustainable way to contribute to local organizations, they have agreed to deny the request. They will support provincial efforts to protect Saskatchewan waterways from the invasive species.

Numbers are in from the Ministry of Government Relations.

In a letter from the ministry, it was announced that Humboldt will receive over $1.033 million of the $241 million the province is giving to the municipalities as part of Municipal Revenue Sharing.
