At a Feb. 27 city council meeting, council voted on a resolution to continue the operation of the Agriplex Arena with city staff and proposed five-year capital improvements for the facility.

However, the motion was withdrawn, as it was decided council would require more time to discuss the matter.

The Agriplex was back on the agenda at Monday's council meeting, with Keith Anderson recommending council operate the Agriplex for the 2012-13 season and leave the decision about the future of the facility up to the next council.

The recommendation was made because there is sufficient money in the 2012 operating budget to keep the facility running until the end of the season, and because of the complications that would arise in the minor hockey schedule if the facility were closed so close to the start of the season.

According to documents submitted to council, the Agriplex typically sees around 700 hours of ice time use and generates $39,400 in youth rentals and $11,000 in adult rentals.

Because the vote occurred so late, council decided to continue operating the Agriplex for the 2012-13 hockey season, and to leave the decision about the future of the facility up to the city council to be elected this October.
