It's business as usual at North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services as the search commences for a new chief to replace Pat MacIsaac.

North Battleford mayor Ian Hamilton has expressed confidence a replacement can be found quickly and that the fire department will be able to function in the interim.

Hamilton told the Regional Optimist Tuesday that City Manager Jim Toye had meetings set up with the department for that day to plan next steps.

"They will, as a team, come up with a strategy where they feel, what they feel, will be the best go-forward plan that will provide the city with a new fire chief," said Hamilton.

The process could take a number of months, Hamilton admitted, but he noted the decision could come "sooner rather than later."

MacIsaac resigned as fire chief in a statement released Nov. 30, saying only that he was "moving on to new opportunities."

In the interim, Hamilton confirmed deputy chiefs Kevin Steinborn and Brian Wilson will be in charge of running the department. It was Wilson who attended Monday's council meeting in MacIsaac's former seat at the administration table.

The mayor firmly believes the department will be able to run smoothly in the meantime.

"The deputy chiefs will have to collaborate and provide their leadership, and fill the gap, but it will be done," said Hamilton.
