North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services has entered into a unique arrangement with the Canadian Red Cross with respect to disaster-related emergencies.

The idea is for the Red Cross to take on a more active role in the City's emergency preparedness and lessen the burden on City officials, as well as tap into their huge network and expertise.

Chief Pat MacIsaac and his department met with Red Cross provincial officials regarding the possibility of having them take on certain functions as part of their Emergency Social Services plan. The Red Cross role, according to a memo to the City dated May 10, would involve registration and inquiry and the logistics of lodging and care.

MacIsaac told council Monday his department was excited about the partnership.

"If a crisis does happen we will be able to respond more efficiently," said MacIsaac.
