Organizers of the Wayne Pruden Memorial golf tournament are accepting nominations for the tournament's Spirit of Giving Award

The first Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament was organized 16 years ago in tribute to a man who believed and acted on the importance of supporting both his community and family. The inaugural tournament drew about 80 golfers, many of whom were family members and friends of Wayne and Sue Pruden and their family.

It has grown to become the largest and most successful charity golf tournament in the area, sold out every year with over 200 golfers participating, many who are of the original 80. Every year close to $30,000 is raised to purchase medical equipment and enrich health care at Battlefords Union Hospital.

In 2010 the Pruden family decided they wanted to honour the memory of their husband and father by presenting the Spirit of Giving Award at the tournament to an individual who represented Wayne's conscientious benevolence and generosity.

The recipient would be an individual who embodied and exemplified Wayne's spirit and love for his community, family and friends. The Spirit of Giving Award would be for someone who is a volunteer, who has gone over and above to assist someone or an organization, who is someone that makes their community a better place to live.

In 2010 the award was presented posthumously to Al Gotto who was well known for his work with the golf course and BUH Foundation among many other organizations. In 2011 Terry Lumsdon was the recipient, again someone well known in the Battlefords for his generosity, spirit and commitment to his good friend Wayne's tournament.

The Pruden family has decided that they would like the Battleford's community to determine who would be a deserving and suitable candidate for the 2012 Spirit of Giving Award.

Nominations are now open. If you know of someone who would be representative of this criteria please call BUH Foundation Office at 446-6652 for an application form or drop by the office at BUH. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 18.

The recipient of this award will receive a participant pass and cart, and will be honoured at the tournament and banquet. The Spirit of Giving Plaque with recipients' names can be viewed in the main lobby at BUH.
