Scientists and volunteers from adults to children are doing a bioblitz this weekend in order to catalog plants and wildlife and document species at risk. It’s happening at Nebo, a site 70 kmolometres west of Prince Albert.

Nebo is one of the newest sites in Saskatchewan that the Nature Conservancy is working to preserve forever. It was chosen as a conservation site because of its biological diversity. This Saturday staff and volunteers will do an inventory of species at risk and all plants and animals.

We’re still taking more volunteers if they want to spend the day out in nature and learn the ropes of documenting wildlife. Ever wanted to try to spot a blackburnian warbler in its natural habitat? Now’s your chance.

Nebo is special because it is prime habitat for up to 10 species at risk including the whooping crane, other birds and bats. It’s where boreal forest mixes with rolling prairie grassland, meaning you will find mixed wood forest, wetlands and prairie grasslands. The work this Saturday will be essential in determining how many species at risk are present and what steps might be able to be taken to conserve all wildlife and vegetation.

Nebo is near near Ordale. The biolblitz takes place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
