Piles for a new manufacturing plant in Battleford are going in and by June the erection of the building could begin.

The $6.7 million 28,000-square-foot metal tank fabrication plant is being built by Leading Manufacturing Group Inc., a manufacturer specializing in shop-fabricated heavy oil tanks from 50-barrel to 3,000-barrel capacity.

The Battleford plant is to be located at 601-18th St. in the industrial area.

"We are hoping to see completion around the end of September," says Daryl Greenwood, who is a certified engineering technician with LMG.

Leading Manufacturing Group was founded by Lee Gottschlich in 2010. It has an administrative office in Nisku, Alta., a sales office in Calgary, Alta. and a large manufacturing facility located in Vermilion, Alta.

For the Battleford plant, resumés are being accepted for apprentice welders, Battleford town council voted last March to waive a clause in a 2012 land exchange agreement with an oilfield storage tank builder to clear the way for the company to proceed with its plans to develop a plant in Battleford.

The transfer involves six parcels of land near 18th and 20th Streets west of Highway 4.
