If you are looking for something fun to do Friday evening, look no further than your local swimming pool.
As part of Drowning Prevention Week, there will be a Rider themed deck dance that is part of a bid that could help earn Unity dollars towards the new swimming pool. It's not a contest to see who does the biggest pre-event or craziest promotion, but one where a panel of judges determines who should be declared the winner.
The Richardson Pioneer Rider Nation Community Celebration is going tobring this year's festival to three lucky Saskatchewan communities along with a big fat cheque to help fund a local initiative. The top eight communities chosen from the entries will have a chance to win the grand prize of $50,000 towards a health and wellness project in their community. Two runner up communities could earn $25,000. Along with the legacy prize awarded, each winner will get to host a 101st Grey Cup Festival celebration in the community complete with food, entertainment, give aways and $10,000 from Richardson Pioneer to contribute to making it a true Rider Nation celebration.
If chosen for the top eight entries, a representative from the community will be invited to attend the Aug.17 Rider game.
After Aug. 17 is where the community help comes in, because online voting will play a role in the eventual success of the winning community. If Unity is chosen to be one of the three finalists, again a representative from the nominating group will be invited to attend the Sept. 14 Rider game to find out the results. Those winners will be asked to finalize their party preparations for their community celebration event, which needs to be held on the last three away games of the Rider season - Sept. 29, Oct. 4 or Oct. 26.
So, get your green on and come out to the pool for a barbecue and a swim followed by the Rider party deck dance Friday, which will include food, music, games and tons of fun. Then watch for announcements regarding Unity's entry.
