There are no charges anticipated in a collision between a Correctional Service Canada vehicle and a motorcycle near Whitewood, which resulted in the death of the driver of the motorcycle.
The CSC says at the time of the accident on July 24, the CSC vehicle was transporting 10 inmates between federal facilities. None of the five staff or inmates were harmed in the accident. The inmates were immediately relocated to a secure facility until arrangements could be made for their transportation to a federal institution. All inmates are currently back in a federal institution.
CSC thanked the first responders and the Broadview RCMP who attended the scene of the accident. CSC says it will be working with the RCMP as they conduct an investigation into the accident.
“CSC extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim,” stated a news release.
Broadview RCMP UPDATE: Fatal collision near Whitewood, SK
Broadview RCMP say the collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 9 near Whitewood.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 62-year-old man, was transported to a hospital in Broadview where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officers received no reports of injuries to the driver or the passengers of the CSC transport vehicle.
The name of the deceased will not be released.
There was no indication that alcohol was a factor in the collision. There are no charges anticipated.
The investigation is ongoing.
