Mayor Ian Hamilton and several councillors and administration members professed their support for the Battlefords North Stars in their playoff run at Monday night's council meeting. The show of support was in advance of the Stars' Game Seven at home against Nipawin on Tuesday night.

North Battleford City Hall was behind the Battlefords North Stars all the way Monday night.

With the North Stars facing Nipawin in a crucial Game Seven Tuesday, Mayor Ian Hamilton and city council were all wearing black North Stars jerseys, along with several members of administration.

"Go, Stars, go!" was the official comment by Hamilton.

This isn't the first time council has been seen decked out in sports jerseys in advance of a big game. In 2009 and 2010, councillors and administration wore green Saskatchewan Roughriders jerseys in advance of the team's two Grey Cup appearances.

Ominously, though, the Roughriders lost both times. Those at City Hall were hoping for a better fate for the North Stars in Game Seven.

At least one member of city administration was in an awkward position Monday night. It turned out Matthew Hartney, newly hired finance director, used to play in the SJHL for, of all teams, the Nipawin Hawks. He played in goal for the Hawks in 2002-03.

However, Hartney professed support for his new team Monday night, saying it was a "privilege" to wear the North Stars jersey.

"My billets will be unhappy to see me in this uniform," he added.
