Council highlights from Sept. 20

BATTLEFORD — Here are highlights from the Tuesday, Sept. 20 council meeting in the town of Battleford. The meeting was pushed back one day due to the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 19.

Every Tuesday will be Better Together in the town of Battleford. Town council has approved the proclamation that every Tuesday is declared Better Together Tuesday, with people encouraged to wear their Better Together T-shirts on that day.

Council has approved sponsoring a tree for the Battleford Community Spirit Group’s Lights of Joy fundraiser for this year. On a related note, the Battleford Community Spirit Group has agreed to donate $21,500 to the Parks and Recreation Department for purchase of bike stands for the pump track and for benches for the seniors’ park and pump track.

Battleford will be hosting Movie Night at the Elevator on Oct. 14, and council has approved a road closure of 5th Avenue West between Telegraph Road and Highway 40 for that event. The movie will be projected onto the elevator at the location and is scheduled to be Space Jam: New Legacy.

Council has approved a land gift proposal from Battleford West. Ltd. where they receive a parcel of land in that subdivision. The parcel is 1.249 hectares or 3.09 acres located at NE-25-43-17-W3 Ext. 57.

Finally, Bralin Technology Solutions has been jointly appointed to work with SaskTel as the town’s central IT service provider.

Upcoming events include National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Sept. 30. All town departments are closed for that day. 

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Oct. 3.
