GOLBURN — The small town fair comes around the corner at Golburn.

“It’s a really great opportunity for everyone to come get together, it’s right before harvest so it’s good opportunity to network and visit with neighbors,” said Karen Smith, President of the Golburn Agricultural Society.

The fair has a pie eating contest, chili cook off, slo-pitch tournament, light horse show and a grandstand with entertainment.

“We have expanded the pie eating contest a bit, so that’s probably the biggest change this year.”

The main difference between local fairs and exhibitions is the size of it.

“We don’t have a big Ferris wheels and the rollercoasters and those sorts of rides. It’s sort of more grassroots, I guess,” Smith said. “We have the horseshow and I mean there are venders there, there’s local businesses that come out and set up booths, but there are no big Ferris wheels and that sort of stuff.”

Despite this, Smith isn’t worried about competing with local exhibitions.

“Its local people, everyone comes out at the same time of year, it’s a good time to get out there and see everybody, for the horseshow people it’s a good time to come out into the ring and show your horses.”

It serves as one of the biggest fundraisers for the Golburn Agricultural Society with others in the past being a farm safety event and 4-H club events.

The fair takes place Aug. 11, about six miles south of Tisdale and a couple miles east.
