A Loon Lake woman who allegedly tried to run over an RCMP officer with an SUV had her court case adjourned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, was charged with assault on an RCMP officer and weapons offences.
Police say that Sinclair hit the officer from behind, grabbed a machete and tried to run him over while the officer was trying to arrest Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50.
Both Sinclair and Leclerc were arrested Jan. 18 after Loon Lake RCMP responded to a complaint from Pierceland RCMP about a suspicious man driving a grey SUV in a farmyard.
Police tried stopping the vehicle on Hwy 26 north of Loon Lake but the driver sped away. Shortly after, they found the SUV at a gas station in Makwa.
RCMP handcuffed Leclerc who they say was driving the SUV and while an officer was taking him back to a police truck, Sinclair allegedly armed herself with a machete, jumped into the driver’s seat of the SUV and sped towards the officer who was still on the ground. The officer was able to move himself to safety.
Sinclair tried turning the SUV around and again sped towards the RCMP officer. She lost control and plowed the SUV into the side of a gas station. The officer wasn’t injured in the incident.
Police searched the SUV and found three semi-automatic handguns and five loaded magazines. They also located bags of ammunition, a revolver, a machete, a black ski mask, leather gloves, knives and bolt cutters.
Sinclair was released from custody on Feb. 12 after a bail hearing. On March 26 she was scheduled to enter a plea and elect how she wanted to be tried but her appearance was adjourned due to COVID-19. A warrant to hold was issued on March 26. She is scheduled to appear again in court on June 25.
