Crime statistics were on the rise in February in North Battleford, based on the latest statistics from Battlefords RCMP detachment.

In the crime statistics presented March 25 at city council, crime was up in eight categories for the month, though it was still a rosier picture for the year to date.

According to the year-to-year statistics for the month of February, person offences were down from 76 in February 2011 to 57 in February 2012. Motor vehicle collisions were down from 36 to 20 and impaired operation of a motor vehicle down from 28 to 26.

But other categories saw increases for the month. Business break and enters went up from two to five, residential break and enters from five to nine, property offences from 148 to 211, criminal code offences from 93 to 127, drug offences from 11 to 34, liquor act offences from 16 to 24, provincial traffic offences from 132 to 176 and municipal bylaw infractions from seven to 11.

For the year 2012 overall through February, person offences are down from 143 to 113, residential break and enters are unchanged at 16, property offences are down from 239 to 176, while increases were noted in criminal code, drug and liquor act offences. Criminal code offences were up from 238 to 259, drug offences were up from 29 to 91, and liquor acts from 36 to 45.

Municipal bylaw infractions were up from 21 to 26 and provincial traffic offences are way up to 448 from 265.
