Cumberland College celebrated its best students at a scholarship tea held in Tisdale.
“Today, we are honouring 71 students who will be receiving 92 awards valued at over $102,000,” said Tom Weegar, the college’s president, at the March 10 event. “An additional $7,000 will be awarded at our upcoming graduation ceremony, so we have a significant body of students we intend to honour their success today.”
There were 55 donors to the scholarships, including the Review. Each donation was matched by the provincial government.
Corinna Stevenson, the college’s board chair, said she and the board were proud of each and every student.
“We applaud your commitment and dedication to yourself and in turn helping to make Saskatchewan a vibrant place to live, work and play.”
Fred Bradshaw, MLA for Carrot River Valley, said he believes the college is the best in the province.
“I encourage all students to stay in our province after graduation after you finish school,” he said, adding that those that graduates can take advantage of the government’s graduate retention program.
Al Jellicoe, Tisdale’s mayor, had similar sentiments.
“All the best to the students in their future jobs and hopefully there will be a few that stick around Tisdale.”
Randy Hoback, MP for Prince Albert, congratulated the award winners via a letter.
“May this success be a stepping stone to a brighter future. I commend you on your outstanding achievements and you commitment to your education.”
