Electrical work at the CUPlex theatre, tiling at the aquatic centre, dry wall at the curling rink and steel work at the field house have been the focus of construction activity in recent weeks.

Much progress has been made in constructing the Credit Union CUPlex, according to the latest report to city council.

Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson provided that report Monday night, based on the March 1 site meeting at the CUPlex.

Anderson noted progress on the electrical work at the theatre, which had been an ongoing source of headaches for those involved in the project due to the departure of an electrical subcontractor.

The new subcontractor is continuing to forge ahead, said Anderson. All the electrical work in the catwalk area below the theatre was completed last week, he said, and that allows drywall work to proceed there.

Adding to the good news was the fact there were no further changes to the timeline for completion in Anderson's latest report, dated March 7.

The theatre had seen its substantial completion date pushed back several times since December, and Anderson's previous report Feb. 21 revealed the completion date has been moved back yet again, to May 25. But his report for March saw no further changes to the time line as the theatre remains slated for a May 25 completion.

"That building is making significant progress," said Anderson.

In the aquatic centre, huge inroads have been made in the tiling in that facility, said Anderson. Tiling is currently being completed in the wade pool. The aquatic centre is still slated for substantial completion April 30.

The curling rink is moving ahead with dry wall work, with most of the concrete pouring complete. At the field house component, the steel is up for the running track as of last week and framing was underway for the windows on the lower floors.

Substantial completion for the curling rink is still slated for June 15 and the field house date is Sept. 15.

Anderson said it was a great winter for construction.
