The mild winter conditions proved ideal for those taking part in the latest tour of the construction of the Credit Union CUPlex Friday.
Those on the tour, which included media representatives and some members of the public, were led around the four buildings by Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson. Mayor Ian Hamilton was also in attendance.
Those who saw the buildings under construction came away impressed with construction progress on the four components of the project.
Of the four buildings, the two closest to completion remain the aquatic centre and the theatre, though some personnel-related construction delays have pushed the expected completion date for the theatre back to April of this year.
Much of the building is in place, with the interior of the building still needing considerable work done before it is ready to operate.
Construction of the aquatic centre component has also progressed noticeably, although considerable work still must be done to complete the pools and the interior of the building.
Not quite as far along is the curling component, with the area slated for the sheets of ice still undeveloped. However, the building itself is now up and is being heated for the winter months by generators inside the building.
The least developed of the four components remains the field house, which Anderson now expects will not be ready until the start of September.
It is anticipated Anderson will provide another regular update on where progress stands with construction of the CUPlex to city council sometime this month where more details should be revealed about the status of the construction.
