With summer drawing to a close Impact Dance Company hosted a summer camp Aug. 22-24 at their studio.
The camp offered dancers of various age and skill levels, including junior, intermediate, and senior, the opportunity to learn several different dance styles including tap, jazz, free movement, musical theatre, contemporary, modern, and lyrical.
“We do it to kickoff the year, get the kids pumped and excited for the year to begin,” said Impact Dance Company co-owner Terralea Armstrong.
In total the camp hosted 55 students from around the Humboldt area including Imperial, Bruno, Wadena, LeRoy, Watson, and Lanigan among others.
Dancers were given the opportunity to learn from three instructors from around the area including Desiree Dies from Saskatoon, Marcel Tremel from Bruno, who used to dance in Humboldt, and Tatum Wildeman, who also used to dance in Humboldt.
Armstrong says seeing those dancers come back to help teach the next generation of dancers is awesome and provides them with the opportunity of seeing where dancing can take you.
Impact Dance Company co-owner Kylie Redl-Gosselin says it is that lesson that she hopes the dancers take away most from the camp.
“It gives them the idea that they can go beyond these walls and do professional things with what they are learning here. I think that’s huge for the kids.”
Armstrong says she likes being able to bring in instructors from outside their studio because it also gives the dancers the opportunity to learn from someone other than their normal instructor.
“It’s just fun for the kids and it gets them pumped and ready to go for their intense year of training for exams and competitions and it gives them something fun to work on…so it’s nice for them to experience different styles of dance.”
After three days of camp Redl-Gosselin said everything went really well and said the kids seemed to have a lot of fun.
“The kids come in everyday with a smile on their face and they come back a little bit sore so it means they’re working every muscle that they need to be working while they’re here.”
Redl-Gosselin would like to thank everyone involved for helping to make the camp a success.
“We appreciate that the teachers have come out and that the kids have come out and the parents have taken the time to let their kids come everyday this week it’s been really fun for them.”
After a busy three days of camps Impact hosted their in studio registration on Aug. 25 but will still accept registrations at any time. Anyone interested in registering can call Impact Dance Company at 306-682-5670 or send them an email at [email protected].
